Solar for Brisbane Aged Care
Cut your facility's $90k–$420k power bill by 60–75% with a 100–300kW rooftop + battery system. 4–6 year payback after LGCs, battery incentive and IAWO — plus seamless storm-season backup for critical clinical circuits.

Where aged care power bills actually go
24/7 HVAC dominates — and Brisbane's subtropical summers push it harder than almost any other commercial sector. Solar + battery is uniquely well-matched.
24/7 climate control across resident wings
Aged Care Quality Standard 4 (Services & Supports for Daily Living) effectively mandates tight temperature ranges in resident rooms — usually 22–25°C year-round. A typical Brisbane 80-bed RACF runs 60–110 kW of HVAC continuously through summer and 20–40 kW through winter. Daytime portion is perfect for solar; overnight portion is your battery case.
Commercial laundry & kitchen
On-site laundry processes 400–900 kg of linen daily (washers, dryers, ironers — 30–80 kW connected, mostly daytime). Commercial kitchen serves 3 meals + morning/afternoon tea (ovens, combi-steamers, bain-maries, dishwashers — 40–90 kW). Both are daytime loads and ideal solar matches.
Medical equipment, call systems, lifts
Oxygen concentrators, nebulisers, pressure-care mattresses (24/7, modest individual loads but high count). Nurse-call and duress systems. Hydraulic lifts, automatic doors, hot water plant. Combined ~15–30 kW continuous baseload — perfect for a battery to ride through outages without disrupting care.
Hot water, lighting, garden & pool pumps
Heat pump hot water for 80–120 residents (handwashing, showering, kitchen, laundry top-ups). LED throughout common areas. Garden, hydrotherapy pool and fountain pumps. Schedule heat pump cycles for 10am–3pm and these loads cost almost nothing to run on solar.
Why Brisbane aged care providers are prioritising solar in 2026
Four reasons CEOs, facility managers and clinical leads are bringing solar projects forward — beyond simple bill savings.
60–75% power bill cut
A typical Brisbane 80-bed residential aged care facility drops from $185k/yr to $55–75k/yr on a 180kW + 100kWh battery system. Multi-site providers (3+ facilities) commonly save $400k–$900k/yr across their Brisbane portfolio. Savings flow directly to AN-ACC margin.
Battery backup = resident safety during outages
Brisbane storm-season outages (Nov–Mar) are a real clinical risk for aged care — pressure-care mattresses, oxygen concentrators, ducted A/C all stop. A 100–300 kWh commercial battery wired for islanded operation keeps critical circuits live for 6–18 hours, with seamless transfer. This alone has avoided ambulance transfers in Brisbane facilities we've installed.
AN-ACC sustainability & quality alignment
While Aged Care Quality Standards don't yet explicitly score sustainability, the new Strengthened Quality Standards (2024) and increasing Royal Commission scrutiny make environmental performance a genuine differentiator. Solar features prominently in successful AN-ACC submissions and family marketing — especially for premium private providers.
Federal commercial battery incentive + IAWO
Two stacked 2026 incentives: (1) Federal Commercial Battery Incentive — substantial up-front rebate on commercial-scale BESS; (2) Instant Asset Write-Off — for-profit operators with aggregated turnover under $50M can deduct the full install cost in the year of purchase. NFP providers access equivalent depreciation pathways. Combined, these cut effective payback by 18–24 months.
Real example: 80-bed Brisbane northside RACF
Real 80-bed northside RACF — 180kW rooftop + 100 kWh BESS, staged wing-by-wing install in occupied facility, clinical-circuit backup commissioned with existing standby genset.

Don't let a residential installer wire your clinical backup circuits
Backup for an aged care facility is a clinical-safety design problem, not a switchboard wiring exercise. Critical circuits (nurse-call, oxygen, pressure care, lift, corridor lighting) must be on a dedicated sub-board with documented transfer behaviour, tested under load, interlocked with your standby genset, and signed off by a registered electrical engineer. Insist on the engineering documentation before you sign anything.
