Capacity (kWh)

The single biggest cost driver. In 2026 you'll pay $710–$960 per usable kWh installed for a tier-1 battery in Brisbane. Bigger stacks bring the per-kWh cost down because the labour and electrical work are essentially fixed.

Inverter & coupling

DC-coupled (Powerwall 3, Sungrow SBR + SH hybrid) is 3–5% more efficient and avoids paying for a separate inverter. AC-coupled (sonnenBatterie, BYD + Fronius) is the right call when adding to existing solar — you keep your current inverter but lose a little efficiency.
