SolarEdge Home Hub / Genesis

Six factors that decide your pick
More important than brand loyalty — these are the technical specs that determine whether an inverter is right for your roof and household.
String vs micro vs optimisers
String (Sungrow, Fronius, GoodWe) is the right call for simple north-facing roofs — cheapest and most efficient. Microinverters (Enphase) are the right call for split-aspect or partly shaded roofs. Optimisers (SolarEdge) sit in between.
Hybrid vs grid-tie
Hybrid inverters (Sungrow SH, Fronius GEN24, GoodWe ET, SolarEdge Hub) cost $400–$1,000 more upfront but let you add a battery later without rewiring. If you'd ever consider a battery, get a hybrid now.
Warranty: length AND service
10-year warranty is standard; Enphase offers 25. But the warranty is only as good as the service network. Sungrow, Fronius and Enphase have full AU offices. SolarEdge service times have lengthened. GoodWe is improving but still trails.
Monitoring app matters daily
You'll use the app every week for 10+ years. Best: Enphase Enlighten and Sungrow iSolarCloud (per-panel/per-string detail, fast). Good: SolarEdge Monitoring, Fronius Solar.web. OK: GoodWe SEMS Portal (clunky but works).
Battery compatibility
Sungrow SH → Sungrow SBH. Fronius GEN24 Plus → BYD HVS. SolarEdge Hub → SolarEdge Home Battery. Enphase IQ8 → IQ Battery 5P. GoodWe ET/EH → GoodWe Lynx or BYD. Mismatched pairings work but lose features (no panel-level optimisation, no native backup).
Single-phase vs three-phase
Standard homes use single-phase up to 5kW inverter. Larger homes (10kW+ system, ducted A/C, EV charging, pool) should use three-phase — better balance across the switchboard and higher export limits in Energex zones.
Inverters we won't quote
No-name string inverters under $700 supply price, brands without an AU-based service office, inverters where the warranty is fronted by the installer rather than the manufacturer, and any unit not on the Clean Energy Council Approved Inverter List. If a quote is using a brand you've never heard of, ask why.
